In my recent past I've had two friends (Mary McMenamy and Victoria Gouletas) experience spinal cord injuries. I've been truly inspired by both of them and their commitment to retaining their athleticism and their joy of life. Although it's true that spinal cord injuries have changed their lives, it has not changed them. Their hard work and determination in the face of daunting challenges has shown me what bravery means. I'm proud to call them friends and so I'm equally proud to race on behalf of U2FP in their name.
I'm super excited about sharing the field with my peers. The great thing about endurance sports is you're really competing against yourself. That allows you to genuinely root for those around you. Especially as you pass them vs. the other way around...but it's nice either way.
FUN FACTS:
- After a long run I crave...sitting!
- I listen mostly to nature when I'm training. I find if I work on my awareness and observe the beauty of the world around me I gain more stress relief on the trail.
- I ran in the Disney World Marathon in 2009 and had a blast. I have since completed the Ironman Triathlon (140.6) three times and completed all three.
- Outside of endurance sports I am passionate about wake boarding. It's the only place that beats the trail for encountering nature.
